England, as the host nation of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, will qualify automatically along with the teams that finished in the top 3 of their pool in the previous Rugby World Cup (2011). The first round sees 20 teams (determined by regional competitions like the European Nations Cup) divided into four pools of five teams with the 12 teams that have automatically qualified.
